About

“Rethink the design profession by questioning the status quo. Find alternative methods to attain the careers that you desire.”

What Is Young Architect?

Young Architect is about empowering people interested in careers in architecture and design. When I started Young Architect, I  was At its core, it is about learning from those who have come before you and questioning the traditional path towards becoming a professional. In this site I hope to provide the tools and resources that you can use to enhance your design career and education.

What Young Architect Is Not?

This site is not about chasing the coolest architectural projects or finding the newest gadgets. There are plenty of great sites that do a much better job of that than I ever could. It is not even about critiquing  architecture around the world as I am not in a position to pass any judgement. So in that regard this site is not your typical architecture blog. I am not here to make a quick buck, there are other better ways to get some more income. I am not here to feed you the same garbage you might have heard in school. In short, I am here to spread ideas to younger generations of architects and design professionals.

Who Am I?

My name is Marc Wyzykowski and I work as a project manager in a small Santa Monica, CA firm. I’m 27, married and the proud father of a chocolate lab named Mitch. I received my Bachelors degree in Architecture at the University of Arkansas and recently graduated from the University of Southern California with a Masters in Real Estate Development. I have many passions outside of architecture including personal development, finance, exercising, following my sports teams, and traveling.

Why Should You Listen To Me?

To be perfectly honest, I have no qualifications. I haven’t written a book. I’m not a Pritzker Prize Winner and never will be. I have however enjoyed a career where I nearly tripled my salary in my first three years, and I have studied and worked around the world in places like: Rome, Mexico City, New York City and Los Angeles.  Most importantly, I have avoided the overwork and stress that is typical of a young career in architecture. I have followed my interests within architecture while pursuing passions and ambition that I have outside of my “career.”
