I’m just shy of Junior Standing at UCLA. I really didn’t know what I wanted to do when I first got to school and spent years bouncing between majors and taking sabaticals to work and travel. In January I applied to the undergraduate major program at UCLA (and have completed my GE requirements). I won’t find out if I got into their program for another month or so and wouldn’t begin coursework until the fall (except for a 6 week intensive program that I’m taking this summer where I will take my first two studio classes). Right now I’m just working as a bartender and cater waiter on the weekends but would really like to get an internship with an architecture or even interior design, construction or any related firm to get some experience.

What would be your advice in terms of where to look and how to pursue getting such an internship considering that I have no experience with AutoCAD, have never taken any studio or design classes. What I do have is project management experience, significant office, logistics and sales (of all types ranging from house painting, high end fitness equipment and commodities like apples) experience. I’m also willing to work hard and learn anything they need for cheap (maybe free).

I have decided that architecture is the field that I want to work in and if I don’t get accepted to UCLA’s undergrad program I will be taking the year to take night school and work (hopefully in a related industry) while I reapply to UCLA and other schools (for undergrad).

I am a 1st year Architecture student at Arizona State. I am trying to get an Internship in Southern Cal where I am from. Can you offer me any advise on the best practical approach to landing the job and getting the most out of the experience?
