The Architect’s Habitat

Recently we had to move our desks around in my office in order to retint our windows. My firm has been at its current location for 15 years and the furniture arrangement has never changed. So you can imagine that prying the desks from their encrusted locations on the rug revealed a cross section of history throughout the years.

Things that were found were:

someones checkbook, who had not worked their this century.

old pre-computer hand-drawn details from projects long-gone.

a mid-1980’s Madonna cassette.

MTV unplugged best of CD ( the one with Natalie Merchant and John Cougar on it.)

a pair of tweezers.

Catalogs from as early as 1992.

Crunch bar in the window that has melted and frozen every night and day for who knows how long.

Also of note, I came across a picture of the office from a few years back. It seems as though the innovative minds in the office thought it would be a good idea to have an all-weather patio umbrella act as a focal point in the middle of our office! I don’t think I could even make this up. Upon further investigation, I was told that one of the partners thought it would add “interest” to the space and help “break it up.” Did I mention that my office won’t be nominated for a Pritzker prize anytime soon?
